Tissue Box Challenge: Chicka Chicka Boom Magnetic coconut tree!

We have been reading Chicka Chicka ABC book and it has become one of CJ's favorite books. I came to know about the gorgeous, ingenious book from this post at the blog sweet serendipity. The same day CJ came home from school saying her teacher had read "chicka chicka boom boom" book and she just loved it. So we checked out the book from library. We made a magnetic coconut tree to go with the book.

What do you do with the cards that come with the Tissue paper box opening? I store them, they are just perfect for upcycled bookmarks and tree trunks. We used the card to create the trunk of the coconut tree and for the leaves we used the empty tissue box.

The Activity Mom and JDaniel4's Mom are hosting a Tissue Box Challenge in honor of Earth Day. We feel excited to participate in the challenge, do hop on to check innovative, creative, fun projects!

For the coconut tree:
Empty Tissue Box
Tissue Box cards(card covering the opening of the box)
Markers
Child Safe Scissors
Glue
Construction paper(Green, Brown and black)
Magnetic Tape

Steps Overview:

Tree Trunk - Using the tissue paper card as template, cut a piece of black construction paper and glue it on top of the card.

Leaves - Free hand the leaves of the coconut tree on a green construction paper or you can download the template from dtlk teach. Glue the paper on the tissue paper box and cut the leaves out.

Coconut - Free hand circles on brown construction sheet and cut them.

Coconut tree - Assemble the parts together. Glue the leaves to the trunk, Glue the coconuts onto the leaves.

Attach a strip of Magnetic tape to the backside of the tree trunk and tree ready for the chicka chicka boom boom!

We reenacted the book to Daddy using a cookie tray and Magnetic letters. CJ was excited to play. We did the show many times.

I liked it so far, But I wanted CJ to realize the space constraint on the top of the coconut tree. So I removed the green construction paper on the leaves.

Attached magnetic tape strips as shown below to all the leaves and glued back the construction paper again. Now the alphabets will get attached to the leaves and stay on the tree

I added few more coconut leaves

After adding the coconut leaves the trunk became short, So I extended with one more piece of card

A told B, B told C "I'll meet you at the top of the coconut tree."

Have I placed the alphabets in right place!

"Whee!" Said D to E F G, "I'll beat you to the top of the coconut tree." Chicka chicka boom boom! Will there be enough room? Here comes H up the coconut tree,

CJ's favorite line from the book - and I and J and tag-along K, all on their way up the coconut tree.

Oh Mommy! where do I fit them, there is no enough room?

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! Thumpty Bumpty Dum, all the alphabets and the tree had a great fall!
